The House of Commons: Building an internal leadership coaching faculty

We are delighted to be attending the CIPD Annual Online Conference Exhibition on 11-12 November 2020 for the fifth consecutive year. We are particularly pleased this year, as we will be showcasing our recent work with the House of Commons.

Our showcase – “The House of Commons; Building an internal leadership coaching faculty” is on Wednesday 11th November 12.30-12.55pm.  During the session, if you have any questions, then there is the ability to chat with Martin and Jonathan virtually.

Over the past eight months, we have been working with the House of Commons to implement an internal coaching programme. Due to the impact of Covid-19, we performed most of the work virtually. That meant moving away from a traditional in-person programme – that is very personal where coaches need to be supported, nurtured and stretched – to online delivery. So how did that move change the experience of the coaching? Was virtual working as effective as traditional training methods?

The showcase demonstrates the value of selecting and training a cadre of in-house leadership coaches. These coaches act as a powerful resource for developing leaders and, if directed in the right way, can act as a strategic lever for culture change.

Through our training, adopting a clear structure to the training and regular coaching supervision, the internal coaches have become an asset for organisational change.

We want to thank Carl Akintola-Davies, Liz Childs, Angela McHale and Pauline Bean from the House of Commons for their commitment, time and contribution to, not only this showcase but to the programme. We would also like to thank Anne Welsh for her support, guidance and humour.

Martin is very personable and was great to work with on a Cultural Change programme...he really got us thinking in different ways, challenging how we achieved results.
